Centipede Grass Sod
The lowest maintenance warm-season grass you can grow. Centipede thrives in acidic soils with minimal care.
The Low-Maintenance Lawn
Centipede grass is the least demanding warm-season grass you can grow in South Louisiana. It needs less fertilizer, less mowing, and less water than St. Augustine or Bermuda. Originally from China and Southeast Asia, it has thrived in the Gulf South's acidic soils and warm climate since the early 1900s. If you want a good-looking lawn without constant upkeep, Centipede delivers.
Baton Rouge Sod carries centipede grass sod in fresh-cut pallets, ready for pickup or delivery across Greater Baton Rouge.

Centipede Care Tips
Fertilizer Plan
Do NOT over-fertilize. Centipede decline is caused by too much nitrogen.
Watering Schedule
Water 1 inch per week during drought, otherwise rainfall is sufficient
Mowing Height
Mow at 1.5 to 2 inches. Never scalp.
Iron Application
Apply iron sulfate if grass yellows (iron chlorosis)
The Low-Maintenance Choice for Louisiana Lawns
Centipede grass earned its nickname "the lazy man's grass" because it needs less of everything. Less fertilizer, less mowing, less water. For homeowners who want a green lawn without spending every weekend maintaining it, centipede is the clear winner.
It spreads through stolons and forms a dense, medium-textured turf with a natural apple-green color. Most centipede lawns only need mowing every 10 to 14 days during peak season.
Avoiding Centipede Decline
The biggest mistake homeowners make with centipede is over-fertilizing. Too much nitrogen causes rapid top growth, excessive thatch, and eventually centipede decline. Stick to one light application of slow-release fertilizer in late spring.
Never apply lime to a centipede lawn. Centipede prefers acidic soil with a pH between 5.0 and 6.0. If the grass starts yellowing, apply iron sulfate instead of more fertilizer.
