TifTuf uses 38% less water than Tifway 419. After establishment, it can survive on rainfall alone in most Baton Rouge seasons. During drought, water deeply once per week rather than light daily watering.
For water conservation and late-season color, yes. TifTuf stays green longer into fall and greens up earlier in spring. Tifway 419 is still excellent for sports turf. For home lawns, TifTuf is the better choice.
It handles partial shade better than most Bermuda varieties, tolerating 4 to 5 hours of sun. For areas with less than 4 hours of sun, consider Zoysia or St. Augustine.
